Captain Marvel is a Kree warrior who finds herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the shapeshifting Skrulls. Oddly, she keeps having recurring memories about someone named Carol Danvers, who is in the U.S. Air Force. After crashlanding on Earth in 1995, she meets up with a low level S.H.I.E.L.D. agent named Nick Fury. Working alongside her new accomplice, Captain Marvel will have to uncover the secrets of her past, while trying to figure out if she is on the right side of the war.

Nick Fury says “What the flerken.”

Stuff to be aware of:

Grossness - In the beginning of the movie, in a dream, Carol has blood on her hands and running down her nose. The color of her blood is blue. When a Skrull dies they shapeshift back into their original form. A dead Skull’s chest is opened up on a mortuary table.

When Carol gets hit by an energy core her eyes glow and her veins can be seen. Carol hits the Supreme Intelligence (who is a woman) in the jaw and her hand goes through her, she is not material. Goose has giant tentacles that come out of her mouth and eats people.

Scary - The Skrulls, when they aren’t shapeshifted, look a bit creepy. Kind of like green Elves with chins like Thanos.

Sexual - There is a mean comment about how a girl can’t be a pilot because it’s called a “cockpit.” A man looks under a sheet covering up an alien’s private parts.

Violence - The beginning of the movie Carol and her mentor spar. There are several gun fights in which people are shot (like most MCU movies). When the Skrull are looking into Carol’s memories she is hung upside down and beams are light shooting into her head. Some Skrulls get sucked into space.

Nick Fury gets into a car crash after he discovers he is riding with a Skrull. The Skrull is seen dead and bleeding and he has some blood on his face. One Skrull gets shot up close and while he is dying he gets shot again.

Other - There is a scene in a bar. There is a terrible plane crash in one scene.

Overall:

Seeing It With Your Family

If your family has seen any of the MCU movies you won’t find much new here as far as violence, gore, or sex goes. This one is a bit tamer than the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

What I Thought

Personally, I really enjoyed Captain Marvel. I may have been a bit partial because I always enjoyed reading her comics. The movie doesn’t fully follow her comic book origin story, but it does a good job translating her into the MCU.
